Residences designed to make the everyday extraordinary.

The Fairmount Hotel was completed just in time for the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland. Located on NW 26th Avenue across from what was once the Expos entry gate, The Fairmount was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. UD+P is excited to apply our renovation and preservation expertise to this vital piece of Portland history so it can be enjoyed by Portland residents for another century or more.

Over the last year, the property has been undergoing extensive restoration and renovations all while preserving the historic charm of the Fairmount’s exterior. The renovated Fairmount Apartments will have approximately 80 modern units with a mix of studios, one bedrooms and two bedrooms. Pre-Leasing will begin in May. Contact us today to be added to the waitlist.

More than just an apartment

This unique and now historical building was constructed in 1905, and served as a hotel during the Lewis & Clark Exposition.  The front entry gate to the fair grounds was located directly outside the doors of the building on the corner of NW 26th and Upshur.  Though time and wear have not been kind to the building infrastructure, the charm of the architecture has not been diminished.  The building has been updated with modern amenities while keeping as much of the original spirit of The Fairmount intact, using as many reclaimed materials from the building as possible and highlighting the exceptional Northwest location.  The remodeled property offers residents close proximity to restaurants, bars, Forest Park and public transportation.  With studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, the resident experience is a balance of modern convenience and vintage style. With all the new apartments coming online in this city this building stands out as something different. It’s a historical gem in a sea of new construction and  the history and bones of this great building shines.

Urban Development + Partners not only took on the task of designing this building with the architects, but we enlisted a large talented pool of craftsmen and workers to oversee all aspects of demolition, construction and design.  Housing a full wood shop on site, the team took reclaimed wood from the property, designed and created each cabinet by hand.  60% of the hardwood flooring is the original floor, refreshed and refinished.  New hardwood flooring was mixed in only when the old could not be salvaged, blending an interesting mix of old and new, modern and vintage.
